Use official channels

Saudi authorities urge people to give through approved official platforms and licensed entities so donations reach eligible recipients. Arab News (June 2026) names Ehsan, Furijat, Jood Housing, Sahem and Tarahum among them. The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah guide also says to give charity through official channels.

Do not give to people begging

Begging is prohibited in all forms, whatever the circumstances or justification offered. The Ministry guide lists responding to beggars on the street among things not to do. Officials link begging to trafficking and exploitation.

Penalties

Under the Anti Begging Law, people who beg, encourage others to beg or assist them may face imprisonment, fines or both. Foreigners convicted may be deported after serving their sentence. The article does not give sentence lengths or fine amounts.

How to report

Call 911 in Riyadh, Makkah, Madinah or the Eastern Province, or 999 elsewhere in the Kingdom, to report begging. See our emergency numbers.

Giving food and water

Check the platform or charity you use and follow their instructions on the day. Do not hand out food or money in the mosque courtyards or crowded gates, because it blocks movement and can cause crowding.

Staying safe

Be careful with messages asking for donations by link or phone call, and see our scams page. We do not collect donations on this site.
